The cover of the game is taken from friday the 13th part VII when the blonde haired bitch finally gets hit in the face with an axe, as jason stands in the doorway. The music from this game is incredable, esp. the music played while the player is in a cabin. There was not a friday the 13th film which included all the characters names from the game, i.e. paul, mark, george, chrissy, debbie, and laura. There was a movie were there were a few of those names but not all simultaneously. (i think the japanese programmers just picked random names from the movies, and damn, they did a good job at this game!) Okay! with my help, and your hand-eye coordination skillz you too could beat Jasons ass in 10 minutes or less. FIRST: -------------- the map: the map can be initiated by pressing the pause button. If the map is initiated during the Threat Sequence, The cabin in which the threat is taking place will blink green. Threat Sequence: -------------- this is when jason has either a councellor or a group of kids in a cabin slowly draining their life. during the course of the Threat Sequence a 2100 Hz tone (approximately) which sounds like pressing a '5' on a DTMF phone keypad will pulse similar to a human heartbeat. During the Threat Sequence you will have only 60 seconds to get to Jason's cabin before he kills the councellor/kids. Obstacles: -------------- Zombies- There were no Zombies in the movies, but its a nice added touch to the best nintendo game in history. 3 stones, 2 knives, one machete- pitch fork- axe - or touch will kill them. Birds - The birds are black with yellow beaks and fly into the screen when there are no zombies, they are killed with one hit generaly and they swoop. So if the timing is right as they swoop and get close to your throwing range killem. Wolves - These wolves are bad ass. They can withstand more damage and howl like a cop car siren. they can be found in the woods, more so at night. Pamela - This is jasons mother, she is in the cave. Her cabin can be initiat- -ed simply by pressing the up arrow, while standing in front of a crumbled rock on the pathway. if you so happen to have a flashlight, you can see the entrance to the cabin. Upon defeat, she will award you a gift, Bats - theres bats in the cave avoid them by ducking, jumping, or (duh..) killing them. Water Zombies- These little bastards will get the character in the boat almost everytime, until you find out a little hint - one hit kills them, and they make a splash sound and you have just a small portion of a second to throw a weapon! -sometimes jason swims by the characters boat also but theres really nothing you could do, and i dont even think it takes a hit off of his hit points if you hit him. Weapons: -------------- this is where the characters build a defense. The characters all start off with a bunch of rocks, which in reality (moviewise) did'nt do shit to jason, or zombies, so just like in the game it takes 3 rocks to kill zombies, and about 2600 to kill jason. The knife, is the second easiest weapon to obtain, and only 2 kills zombies, and 1300 to kill jason. Then theres a machete which will appear after you kill jasons mother, or sometimes at night on the first day or later in the air above your opponents head. The machete isnt bad but.. Theres also an axe wich does more harm if obtained and can be found in one of the hidden cabins in the woods. After that you have the pitch fork, and this does even more damage, and the character can throw more of them at a time. the last and final weapon, obtained only by lighting all the fireplaces in a special order, and does thee most damage on jason/pamela (jasons mother) and the zombies is the torch. try, i repeat try to get this weapon as fast as you can, it WILL damage jason the most and one hit will take off one bar of life. There are three things obtained from pamela to help your journey: on day one you recieve a machete, on day two you recieve the best prize, her sweater (remember at the end of Friday the 13th part two when Jinney put on pamelas sweater and it confused the hell out of poor jason?) the sweater acts as armour for the character who wears it, esp when you fight jason outside. the third award is a pitchfork. Goodies: -------------- The lighter- The lighter as wrongly mentioned as 'the torch' in the beginnig splash screen sequence "use the torch to light the fireplaces" is the first thing the character can obtain. To get the torch simply duck down in the middle of the pathway and throw those ridiculous rocks at all the zombies you see, (ducking down allows you to throw at a nice height rather than over their heads) after about three or four zombie deaths, a torch/lighter will appear in the air above the area where the zombie was killed. Use this in a specail sequence to light the fireplaces and the character will be rewarded a real torch. (i guess they want to see if you have torch/lighter skillz before they give you a big, flaming stick in a wood cabin!) The fireplaces are only in the large cabins these look similar to the small cabins but have an extension to the right of them. Potion!!- these little bottles are clear with red rum in them, and can be found by jumping while the character is running on the trail. In fact it is a good idea to devote day one to gathering as much potion as possible for your player, because if you have some (1) and you run out of hit points, you wont die. The computer (nintendo) will automatically use the potion, to regain about 10% of you life back. As apposed to a RPG where you have to use an offensive turn just on the damn potion/life Rum. Keys- All the keys do the same thing, so once you have one, its like a universal skeleton key which gives the character access to any door in the game. you need a key to get to Pamela, cabins in the woods, and i think thats it. Flash light- The flashlight is obtained after lighting ALL the fireplaces around the lake and the cave, and the full perimeter. If the map is initiated the cabins in the woods look as if they are the extended large cabins but they dont have firplaces so dont worry about heading into the scary woods to get a flashlight. The Sweater- As said before in this manual if obtained (after kill Pamela on the second day) It acts as armor protecting the character. Characters: -------------- Mark- Mark is the best male character in the game, and can easily be used to defeat jason in all three days, if careful. Mark runs fastest and jumps the highest/farthest. George- george is slow, and jumps low. he can throw weapons fast and row the boat fast but not generally good, at catching up to jason during the Threat Sequence. Paul- Paul is equivalent to george, and is not generally a good character to choose, unless you pass the torch to him and face jason outside. Chrissy- Chrissy is the best female character in the game, and is equivalent to mark in ability. Debbie- Debbie is the female equivalent to paul or george and can do, basic- -ally nothing fancy, i tend to use her as a crazy 'gotta kill jason' type of character and when i see jason i dont dodge much but just hit him repeated- -ly to create some damage. Laura- Laura can run as fast a chrissy almost, she jumps pretty well also and can be useful if needed in desperation. Again you want to 'baby' your fast and agile characters so they stay alive. so use-her disctrection is advised. The Game: -------------- Days- The game takes about 3 days/10 minutes to complete. The reader is probably confused by this statement.. so think of it this way, in nintendo years you are like 10,000 years old. See? time goes by quicker, and each day you *MUST* defeat jason. eachday you get through though, your life will be fully restored. Children- you have only 15 children to protect and they are somewhat safely stored at the three cabins on the lakeside. Jason has been known to kill up to 5 or 6 children at a time, so take this seriously. If he manages to kill all the children, (which i dont understand, because he only killed counsellors in the movies, i think that little fag Freddy Krueger only kills children) there will be a splash screen that types "Jason has wiped out all the kids - game over." and you have to start all over. So save the kids!! Game Strategy: --------------- This is trevelyns stategy to beating the game in 10 minutes or less. First after the intro and you are at the map, choose Mark. Then enter the game by pressing 'enter.' After the fireplace torch spash image, you are left on the pathway with the rocks. Initiate the map by pressing enter immediat- -ly and find out where you are. (when you press enter the zombies stay there in the RAM so when the map is deactivated, they are still there, unlike when you enter a cabin and they disappear. (a splash image of the map requires less RAM than sifting your person through a cabin and thus the zombies disappear - this could be useful when the character approaches jason, if you are in fron of a cabin and you dont have enough Rum or bars of life, you can duck into the cabin and then exit running the opposite direction) Once you find where you are, head towards the outer pathway leading around the whole campground. Once there, go clockwise starting at the bottom of the screen and light the fireplace in the first large cabin as you head towords the cave area. then enter the cave area and light the fireplaces in the two large house in a clockwise fashion. If jasons Threat Sequence appears, and he is draining the life of the children, run to the Lake and take the boat to them to save them. if it's just another councellor (the small cabin will be green when you initiate the map) then screw'em, you dont need anyone else. After you light the fireplaces around the cave area, exit the area, and go back to your clockwise traversal path around the perimeter of the campground. Theres only two more fireplaces there, after you light the last fireplace you will recieve a nice letter stating 'you can find a torch, in onr of the cabins by the lake." You NEED this letter to get the torch. and then you get to the bottom of the map and back to where you started. (remember!!! jump around alot and kill SOME zombies and you could gain potions, and a knife. Theres a nice abundance of potions and rum in the woods, so dip into the woods now and again and run around jumping to get, as many potions as possible, BEFORE you get the torch!!) enter the lake area, we have two more fireplaces to go. I always go left in a counterclockwise direction around the lake, the last cabin will have the flashlight (after you light the fireplace) and upon exiting, you will see the torch. Take it. Now that you have the torch, dont jump! I repeat, don't Jump!! The computer will try and give you the knife, and once you accidentally get the knife, the torch is gone!! you can 'pass' it to someone and then get more Rum if you wish. But if you followed directions you already have a bunch of Rum. Now, go to where jason is in his Threat Sequence, and enter the cabin. search around for him, when you see him, go all the way to the left of the screen. This will force the computer (nintendo 8088) to use the same pattern for jason over and over. he comes down, goes to the right, goes to the left, and back up. To dodge press down and left or right diagonally on the directional keypad. when you get to the second and third days jason becomes much faster but keeps the same patterns, and after a few times, you can figure out when he will thrown two punches (or two weapon swings) and when it will be just one. after he blinks for 5 seconds "you win for now" will appear and run out of the cabin as fast as you can, and go left or right proceeding on the path (i usually go right for some reason and it works) and after about 10 seconds or son the screen will lock, and depending on whether or not there is a zombie or two (which will be frightened and run out of the veiwing area) jason will appear! now, keep throwing the torches at him as fast as possible. and since you collected as much rum as possible you should do fine. when he gets hit enough, he will exit the same side of the screen he came from, and now you run in that direction (follow him!) and he should reappear, then repeat. Finding Jason Voorhees outside is where you can do the most damage. if he eludes the character just hunt him down now that you have the rum. after day one or day two, you life will heal. after day one the screen will turn black and you will see in white letters in an old unix font "you have managed to defeat jason... but he's back and now stronger than before!" i wont tell you what it says when you win, so you have SOME surprise to the game. so thats it.. use Mark and the torch to take jason out of the camp. -trev.
